“We’ll build one more cabin” they said

One more cabin. It will be easy. We built 4 last time. What could go wrong?

As anyone knows who has done a building project nothing ever goes totally according to plan. That’s normal and to be expected. As builds go this one was easy, but it does not mean it was without difficulty, stresses and strains.

As a family we very seldom have cross words. There have been a few during this project! There have been days and days with very physical work that has left everybody exhausted and a tad crabbit at times.

Our contractor Will from The Little Hut Company is fantastic. We have worked with him before. His attention to detail and integrity are 2nd to none. He was great to have on site and we all had fun together again. A few things went wrong as they always do eg the roofing did not turn up, the glass was difficult to source and a few other hiccups – all totally expected and quickly fixed.

Will left a few weeks ago now and we started on the list of jobs still to be done. Fire to install, sanding, screening, blinds to put up, plumbing when the plumber did not turn up, heaters to install, cabinets to build, materials to source, hard-core paths to make, trees to plant, sink to install and so the list goes on and on.

Today, the plan came together. It now looks like a beautiful place to stay. We are not quite finished – the blinds are not up yet, but that is all we have to do tomorrow (apart from washing the floors yet again).

I cannot tell you how pleased I am to be almost over the finish line. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to my friends who have listened to me moaning! I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have a family who can work together and create something beautiful – even if it has taken us to the brink some days! Has it all been worth it? Maybe ask me that again in 6 months! 🤣
