We’re Being Eaten Out of House and Home

At the moment, most of my time is being spent refilling the squirrel feeders!
According to our resident expert, Dad, at this time of year, the squirrels bury food supplies for the winter.

As soon as I turn my back, the little rascals have the lid open, and are dashing off with armfuls of peanuts. Just as I’m finished, it’s time for a refill!

I’m exaggerating a little, but they have significantly increased their consumption. Of course, I’m happy to supply them. It’s nice to think I’m helping them through the long, cold, winter ahead. I have to admire the fact that they spend their whole lives in the wilderness, rain, wind or shine, dodging predators and having to find food. A friend told us recently that he saw an Osprey with a red squirrel in its talons recently! Tough life out there for the little guys.

So, I’m more than happy to keep their feeders topped up. The reds need all the help they can get.
